just a little fact for you guys that think its good: The human race has never given narwhals a break. First, we start killing them so that merchants can trick people into thinking that they're uni-corn horns, which can cure any illness. I know i sound like some tree-hugging hippie, but its only true. So, are one of you guys going to walk right up to me and harpoon me just because I have a rare hat? I am not kidding about that. This is not hunting, this is murder.

You people sicken me. How could you kill an innocent creature. It's okay, because Karma will get all of us. Every single human, will get Karma 100 fold for what we have done to these animals, this earth, this planet. And don't blame the fact that they were hungry, with ALL the technology and resources in the world today I'm SURE they can get food other ways.

I'm ashamed to be a part of the human race.

I must be the only one who agrees with Kevin!
I don't think hunting is bad at all, unless you are doing it needlessly. The article states that in Greenland, it is a common animal to hunt. In the U.S., deer-hunting is extremely common. Only a small amount of people oppose deer hunting, so I think you should be more considerate of their customs. It's perfectly normal to fish too, and that's killing tons of animals. This is the same concept. [Also, on account of the second tooth being caused by a second mutation, this trait would not be passed down to it's offspring, so it's not as if he was killing something endangered.]

Everyone here says 'WE have all these resources, WE have all this food'. Go to Alaska, you may be surprised to find out they dont grow many fruits or vegetables. While somebody living in the Midwest can go to 9 different grocery stores to buy their food, these ppl dont have that luxury.

Srsly...grow some veggies? In Alaska....grow some veggies....wtf.

Isn't it more fun to enjoy a narwhal by observing its life rather than taking its life? Sure the hunt is fun and I'm sure you feel like a smart powerful human for being able to dominate such a magnificent creature, but I would rather protect the beauty on this planet then destroy it. What kind of souvenire is a corpse?

Hmmm... interesting thoughts. I agree that:
* Indigenous people have a right to their customs,
* Narwhals are probably not endangered,
* There are a lot of hot-heads on this site.

HOWEVER:
* The Indian certainly had all the tools and the legal right to kill the whale; that does not give him a good reason to have killed it; rare things should be appreciated, not destroyed.
* Not everyone has the same appreciation for things; if you strongly disagree with something, take steps to try to change it. Perhaps work with an educational or environmental group, to see if you can make a real difference (which you'll be surprised to know: you just might be able to!). You will have at least "walked the walk" and not just "talked the talk", in an effort to make things better.
